One Little Caterpillar
Munch! Munch! Munch!
One Little Caterpillar has beautiful illustrations that instantly capture the child's attention and imagination. The artist makes a connection between reality and fantasy that illustrates emotions in a fun and entertaining way. Maria Grujicic has a unique artistic style that nicely blends with Radivoje Grujicic's realistic illustrations. The text is simple, repetitive and effective. It can be read again and again with impressions anew. The story accompanies an expressive chant with matching movements. Maria Grujicic has worked in a variety of educational settings as a teacher, particularly in early childhood. For at least 16 years she has worked in Spain, UK, Germany and The Northern Territory, Australia, her home. Maria Grujicic is bilingual English and Greek, and learnt Spanish and German in the places she resided. She has a deep interest in children and education, and is an innately talented educator. "This is really powerful stuff. A metaphor of life for children? I think so, and I think young children will get it. They are a lot more insightful than most people believe. And it's just plain fun as well. The use of hands is brilliant. Children will use their hands to relate to the story, and that's an excellent thing. Did you know that the picture of the hands as a butterfly is the image that means butterfly in ASL (American Sign Language)? My youngest is teaching it to me. Hopefully you get the idea: I think you have a classic here!" David W. Aston "The story sounds almost like a nursery rhyme. I love the illustrations of the caterpillars as hands. The story introduces a way to play as it goes along. I can see small children using their hands as butterflies and caterpillars to go along with the story. It's very well done." Jaleesa McLean "Children will identify with the little caterpillar and its adventures. I agree that children will completely understand the message, and I also like your "begin again" ending!" I'm from Darwin the beautiful capital city of the Northern Territory, Australia. It has an exotic island feel and it is where I hold my roots as a nature girl in the wide open free spaces. I've lived in the bigger cities London, Madrid, Albacete, and Frankfurt where I joined a Tribal Fusion Dance group which enhanced my artistic and personal life. The mix of finding love, being abroad, dance and developing unique friendships with artists alike led me to write in abundance. I was involved in innovative dance projects with adults and children. In a short period of time I published several books of poetry. I absolutely adore the sensations of Europe and I hope to return as often as I can. Travel, love, life and true friendship is the why I write. |
