As a former physicist, now retired, I have become active in the education industry. One of my interests in the field is focused on the use of online instruction in brick & mortar schools in which the teacher becomes a tutor. A seemingly unrelated effort (though actually quite pertinent) is our consulting service in which we make estimates at the school level as to what percentages of public school students would have been found proficient on the Nation's Report Card. We have used these estimates as the basis of a guidebook to schools and services of interest to parents of K-12 students within the Potomac Region of Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC. If this guide becomes profitable, we'll do other regions.
