“Social media marketing may be good at driving awareness of books. But, after several years of trial and error, social media has not panned out to be the panacea that publishers expected. A balanced perspective is needed. Social media should still be part of any marketing plan. However, the key is to examine what actually works and focus resources on the activities that drive the most sales. Just like the old cartoon hero, G.I. Joe, used to say at the end of every episode, “Knowing is half the battle.””
