Adding a Section to a Chapter

Sections are a great way to organise content in your book. Suppose you have content in your chapter that needs to be indented from the main body of the text or in some cases completely separated from it. Adding a section is a great way to handle these cases.

  1.  Add a SectionScreen Shot 2016-10-11 at 9.23.21 AM.png
While writing in your chapter, click the drop-down in the left menu, select Section then click the Add button.
  2. Write in the new Section

The new section will appear in the Table of Contents on the left menu nested under your current chapter. Click on the Section to begin writing in it.

  3. Section Title

The Section Title is in the same location as the Chapter Title. This area is used to label a section in your book and have that label appear in the text preformatted based on the Theme you choose.

  4. Nesting Sections

The Section Titles are above the contents of the section and in line with the left margin of the book. If you want to have the  Section nested, you would select the “Indent block’s content” checkbox in the Section Options on the left menu when editing a Section.

You will need to select that checkbox for each Section you wish to indent.

The Section Title will use a formatting header based on the level it is nested.

If you want to include these Section Titles in the Table of Contents for your book, you will need to select the “Include in published table of contents” checkbox in the Section Options on the left menu when editing a Section.

You will need to select that checkbox for each Section you wish to have in the Table of Contents.

Sometimes you don’t want all the Sections on the same page. If a Section should have it’s own page, select the “Force page break before this content” checkbox in the Section Options on the left menu when editing a Section. Like all the other options, you will need to select the checkbox for each Section you wish to have on a single page.

That is the basics of Sections. Using a combination of Sections, their options, and text formatting you can add depth to your book’s layout and presentation.
